Fortunately, there are multiple non-invasive treatments available to treat these signs of aging. These treatments include the use of radiofrequency waves, ultrasound and lasers. They are designed to reverse the signs of aging by stimulating the skin, or its components, to initiate cellular renewal.
At Healthsprings, we have five treatments for eye rejuvenation, namely Thermage, Ultherapy, Fotona 4D, Revlite Laser, and BTL Exilis Elite.
What are the differences between these systems? How are they carried out? What are the indications for each system? Read on to find out!
5 Treatments for Eye Rejuvenation:
Thermage
Thermage uses a patented and FDA approved radiofrequency technology to heat up collagen fibers ,tightening skin and renewing facial contours. Thermage is safe to use around the eyes and effectively reduces eye bags and wrinkles around the eyes. It involves inserting an eye shield underneath the eyelid to protect the corneal while radiofrequency waves are applied directly onto the eyelids.
The procedure is painless and can be done in less than an hour. Some patients show immediate improvement but most show a gradual improvement over 1-6 months. It is a one-time treatment and results can last for up to two years.
Ultherapy
Ultherapy uses FDA approved ultrasound energy technology to heat the skin and muscles to induce superficial and deep collagen renewal and production. It can solve puffy eye bags as well as wrinkly loose skin , making eyes look younger. Ultherapy provides results which are comparable to a facelift. It has minimal pain and takes less than an hour to complete.
Results are not immediate and may take several weeks before some improvement can be observed. Usually more than one session is needed for maximal effect. Read more on how is Ultherapy different from lasers?
Fotona 4D Laser
Fotona 4D uses a combination of lasers to achieve a non-ablative dermal rejuvenation effect that is complemented with a minimal ablative skin resurfacing procedure. The resulting remodelling and stimulation of new collagen provides a tighter and smoother feel and look to the eye region.
Fotona 4D has been shown to reduce dark circles, attenuates eye bags, corrects sagging eyelids and rejuvenates skin around the eyes. It is a relatively pain free procedure that can be done in less than an hour. Results are generally immediate but do get better over a few weeks. For maximal benefit, 3-4 sessions are usually recommended.
Revlite Laser
Revlite Laser is used to stimulate the collagen production, reduce vessels, and treat superficial textural concerns (E.g. sun damage) on the lower and upper eyelids. Resulting in lifted and tighter eyelids, reduced fine lines and lighter dark eye circles effectively.
Exilis Elite
BTL Exilis Elite uses radiofrequency energy to increase collagen production and skin thickness. It can safely be used on the eyelids and around the eyes to treat droopy eyes and loose skin/wrinkles under the eyes.
Full results take approximately 2-3 months to show but there is usually an immediate lifting effect right after the treatment. 4 sessions are usually needed, depending on response.

Which one is suitable for me?
With so many treatments that offer similar results, which one is suitable for you?
It largely depends on the condition of your eyes, availability of time , need for immediate effect and pain tolerance. While all treatments are effective in treating eye bags and eyelid wrinkles , results for crow’s feet are variable.
Ultherapy and Fotona 4D has been shown to be better in reducing crow’s feet although ultimately, crow’s feet are best treated with Botox. Fotona 4D with its combination of lasers, also has additional effect of reducing pigmentation and improving complexion of skin around your eyes. Also, if wrinkling is the predominant problem, Thermage is recommended but if skin sagging is more prominent, Ultherapy would be more appropriate.
Of all the five mentioned treatments, only Thermage requires one treatment per year. Time to improvement also varies for each treatment, as mentioned above. Lastly, although all the treatments are relatively pain free, Exilis Elite is the most comfortable of them all.
Other non-surgical eye rejuvenation options: Botox / Fillers / Threadlift
Botox – Botox and similar botulinum toxins can be used to treat wrinkles around the eyes such as crow’s feet and vertical brow lines to restore youthful looking eyes.
Fillers – Dermal fillers can be injected in the under eye area or even all the way to the upper cheeks to add volume to the sunken area under eye bags and improve the appearance of dark circles.
Thread Lift – PDO threads are inserted under the skin and the tissue can be reshaped to create the desired lifting effect.
