What is Diastasis Recti aka ‘Mummy Tummy’?

Did you know that 80% of mommies suffer from Diastasis Recti? Diastasis Recti is a separation of the rectus abdominis (abs); a common postnatal occurrence. The separation happens during pregnancies, which is caused by stretching one’s connective collagen tissue due to excessive inner-abdominal pressure and resulting in a bigger belly. The more stretched the connective tissues are, the weaker it gets; which makes it harder for the abdominal muscles to heal.

For all mommies, we know that childbirth can be extremely tiring and taxing on the body. Sometimes, mothers may experience various postnatal injuries such as diastasis recti, injuries and muscle strains – that may not heal on their own and will need treatments to improve on it. In some rare and severe cases, they can cause constipation, hernia, back pain and breathing difficulties; due to the weakened support in your abdomen.
