Ultherapy vs HIFU: What are the differences?

Ultherapy vs HIFU: What are the differences?

You might have heard about these 2 popular treatments when searching for  ways to have a skin lift without undergoing surgery.

So what exactly are they and what is the difference?

HIFU  stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound.

It is a medical grade technology used to deliver precise amounts of ultrasound energy into the skin, stimulating collagen production , reducing the amount of wrinkles and achieving a skin lifting effect without the need for surgery.

Ultherapy is a HIFU machine.

Just like HIFU, ULTHERAPY is used to counteract the effects of gravity on the skin.

It can be performed on the neck, chin and brow, and is often used as an alternative to surgical face & neck lift.

Ultherapy is a HIFU machine, but there are many other HIFU machines out there, e.g. Ultraformer III, Doublo-S etc.

What are the differences between Ultherapy and the other HIFU machines? We summarize the main differences below.

#1 Ultherapy is US FDA approved.

Ultherapy has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for skin lifting and tightening.

It is the only HIFU machine approved by US FDA so far. Given the US FDA’s reputation for being extremely strict when it comes to safety and efficacy, it’s approval brings affirmation about the effectiveness and safety of Ultherapy.

#2 Ultherapy has ultrasound imaging.

Ulthera, the machine used for Ultherapy, is the only HIFU machine with real-time ultrasound imaging. The DeepSEE visualisation technology allows the doctor to accurately visualize the layers of skin tissue he or she is targeting.

With this, it will accurately deliver ultrasound energy to the correct layers to ensure effective results are constantly attained.

#3 Ultherapy lasts up to 1 year.

HIFU targets the connective tissues and heats the dermis to stimulate natural collagen production.

Ultherapy allows more heat to penetrate the skin hence extend slightly deeper into the muscle. It results in tighter and lifted skin.

Ultherapy generally needs to be done only once a year while other HIFU procedures can be done once every 6 months.

So, what should you choose?

A patient who would like to reverse their maturing skin will benefit from Ultherapy and HIFU.

Both treatments are suitable for all conditions.

Budget, age, and skin condition are some of the consideration hence it is important to have a chat with our doctor for advice before making a decision.
