What is Thermage and Ultherapy? Both Thermage and Ultherapy can help you look more youthful.

Collagen levels in the skin drop by 1% every year from the age of 30. This translates into fine lines, wrinkles, and loose skin as we grow older. Thankfully, there are options to age gracefully without surgery or needles.
Thermage and Ultherapy are two well known skin tightening and face lifting treatments. They work by heating the deeper layer of the skin known as the dermis.
This causes collagen to contract, which results in skin tightening immediately after the procedure. Furthermore, it also stimulates new collagen formation over 3 to 6 months after a single treatment.
Why choose Ultherapy or Thermage?
THERMAGE ULTHERAPY
- Type of energy waves
Thermage uses radiofrequency waves to heat the dermis. The handpiece is applied systematically in a grid to the targeted area. The entire procedure takes 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.
Ultherapy uses high intensity focused ultrasound waves that reach the dermis as well as the deeper connective tissue layer beneath, called the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system). Tissue layers are visualised real-time using ultrasound imaging, ensuring that the energy waves are delivered precisely to the target tissues. The treatment takes about an hour.
- Treatment areas
Thermage can be done on the eyelids, face, decolletage. It it is also useful for crepey skin on the abdomen and thighs.
Ultherapy is suitable for the brow, jawline, neck, and decolletage.
- Commitment level
There is virtually no downtime with both Thermage and Ultherapy, although one should expect a level of discomfort during the procedure. Some people may experience slight redness, swelling, soreness, or tingling sensation of the area treated. These are mild, and most are able to resume their usual activities immediately after the treatment.
Generally, only a single treatment is required. Although some people see immediate improvement, the full results are only seen in about 3 to 6 months as new collagen rebuilds, and the effect lasts for at least a year. However, our skin continues to age, so future touch up or maintenance sessions may be desired.
Who is this treatment suitable for?
Thermage and Ultherapy have been called “non surgical face lifts”, however the effects will not be as dramatic as a surgery. It is recommended for patients with mild to moderate wrinkles or loose skin. It is also a good option for those who do not wish to undergo surgery, and are happy with improvement on a smaller scale.
Thermage and Ultherapy are good options to obtain a more rejuvenated appearance: a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, brighter eyes, tighter skin around the chin and neck, and a more contoured jawline. They can be combined with other treatments to target all areas of skin ageing. Schedule an appointment for a personalised consultation with our doctors.
